FDA Approved Weight Loss Injections
The Skinny on Semaglutide
WHAT IS SEMAGLUTIDE AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
Semaglutide is the newest FDA approved treatment for weight loss. It is a prescription injection medication that’s been proven to help overweight adults lose weight and keep it off. By mimicking glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) in the body, it can increase insulin secretion and slow down gastric emptying – or how fast your stomach empties food. You feel fuller longer, which helps you eat less and lose weight in the process!
Semaglutide is a powerful appetite suppressant!
Semaglutide is a once weekly, prescription only injectable solution. For your initial visit, Dr. Zieber will consult with you to determine if semaglutide is a good option for you and provide you with a plan and a goal. We understand that each patient is unique and therefore each plan is customizable. Paperwork will be filled out and we will carefully screen and evaluate your current medical history, medications you take, etc. As a precaution we will draw your blood to verify normal liver and kidney function. This is an additional step we perform as your health is our number one concern. If you are a good candidate we will give you your first injection and you will return every 7 days for another injection.
Benefits of Semaglutide
How much weight can I lose with Semaglutide?
You can lose 1-3 pounds per week on average when used alone, however, those who incorporate healthy lifestyle changes such as a balanced diet and regular physical activity may lose more.
How often do I take semaglutide?
Semaglutide injections are given once a week. When you arrive at our office, one of our trained medical staff will administer the injection.
Does Semaglutide have any side effects?
Common side effects may occur, but typically within 4-6 weeks they subside as your body gets used to the medication.
Common side effects are:
Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Constipation, Abdominal pain, Headaches, Fatigue, Dizziness, Gastroenteritis
You are most likely to experience side effects with higher doses of semaglutide. For most people the side effects subside over time, typically within 4 to 6 weeks as your body gets used to the medication. Nausea tends to be more common when taking higher doses. Eating smaller meals, avoiding high fat foods, and remaining upright after eating helps manage potential nausea. Fatigue is common as you eat less and should also subside as your body adjusts to changes in your diet.
Is Semaglutide the same as Wegovy or Ozempic?
Yes. Both Wegovy™ and Ozempic® are branded medicines made by Novo Nordisk, a Danish multinational pharmaceutical company. Both Wegovy™ and Ozempic® contain semaglutide and should not be used while taking other GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Please visit our office for a consultation with Dr. Robert Zieber to determine if you are a candidate.
If you are a candidate, you will be weighed, measured and receive your first injection. Semaglutide is injected subcutaneously near your belly button and is administered once a week. The injection doesn't hurt and is very tolerable. The dosage of medication will be gradually increased over the course of 16 to 20 weeks to avoid any side effects.
We will provide you with a food guide to speed up the rate at which you lose weight. We offer additional injectable nutrients here at De Luz that you might want to incorporate to boost your results such as Lipo-c, B-12 and Glutathione.
You will come for injections once a week, preferably the same day each week, any time of the day, with or without food. No need to make an appointment, just stop in!
