PRP Platelet Rich Plasma

PRP = Platelet Rich Plasma

As we age, collagen production breaks down as we age, leading to wrinkles, sagging, and thinner skin. PRP's growth factors, which are a naturally occurring substance in the body, help to stimulate new cells and the production of collagen. This valuable protein in the body is responsible for helping the skin to look youthful, smooth and plump.

Where does PRP come from?

PRP is derived from drawing your blood and spinning it at a high speed in a machine called a centrifuge. PRP injections are used to create more collagen. The PRP solution is actually yellow in color and these platelets have regenerative and healing properties. It contains more than 1,100 different proteins which include growth factors and enzymes that can trigger cell reproduction, stimulate tissue regeneration or healing and stimulate collagen in the treated area.

Where can PRP be injected?

At De Luz Medical Aesthetics we use PRP for dark undereye circles, to naturally plump lips, stimulate hair growth, minimize acne scarring and add volume to the hands.

Are there side effects?

PRP injections are considered low-risk procedures and don’t usually cause major side effects. The procedure involves a blood draw, so please make sure you are hydrated and have eaten before arriving. Because PRP injections are made up of your own cells and plasma, the risk of an allergic reaction is much lower than with other injectables. People that do not want to do other injectables such as filler, can opt for PRP instead!

Is there any downtime?

Bruising is possible, and redness from where the needle goes into the skin is possible as well. Swelling is completely normal, and usually subsides within 2-5 days. We offer a 20 minute Red Light and Infrared Therapy Treatment directly after the procedure to help with redness and swelling. It will also speed up the healing time!

When will I see results?

Results aren’t seen right away as your body will heal and go through the collagen building process. This treatment works overtime. Some people see an immediate result, but this is temporary, as your body absorbs the PRP the effect will be more subtle.

You will continue to see improvement throughout the next 12 weeks until your next treatment.

Two treatments are recommended 12 weeks apart to see the obtain the best results.  We advise treatments every 6 months to maintain your results.
